Overview
Pirate Skill is a pirate themed app for people interested in pirates. Learn about real life pirates through quizzes and challenges with friends.
The app is a result of a school assignment where we had to develop a prototype of an app within the theme "pirate safari". Through an iterative process with research, PACT-analysis, sketches, paper prototypes, usability tests, interviews and digital prototypes.
All of the design - including the UI, character design and illustrations - are made by myself with a thought of giving it a modern but fun look with the pirate theme in mind.
My Role: UX/UI designer, Visual designer
Tools: Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator & Adobe Photoshop
Duration: 2 months (Dec 2010 - Jan 2021)

The Concept
The Pirate Skill app is a mobile application for people interested in the world of pirates. With the use of gamification, you can learn more about the real life pirates that exists and have been living. Travel around the world and take part in quizzes and challenges.
Challenge your fellow pirate friends, or random people, to unlock new cosmetics and characters.

Concept Development
Before I choose the concept of Pirate skill, I explored the design space within the design brief and created some prototypes for the other ideas as well. Ideas such as a booking system for pirate themed cruises, and a pirate strategy video game.
The final idea of the Pirate Skill app got chosen after some testing and interviews with potential users.

Prototyping
Paper prototype
To figure out the main functions, I started with a paper prototype of the mobile application. I tried the prototype with users to get an idea of the main concept.

Low fidility prototype
To figure out the functionality and spatial structure of the application, I did a low-fi prototype in Adobe XD.
High fidility prototype
Lastly, I developed the high fidility prototype, based on previous testing and prototyping.
